Fine dining and plentiful eating can be a healthy treat when sustainability is whisked into the bowl.

A gluttonous meal is justified with restaurants that smoothly mix eco-friendly design with a sprinkle of fresh local food and a hint of nature and beauty.

New Zealand’s stunning Yellow Treehouse Restaurant combines a whimsical mixture of green design that respects nature and blends it with seclusion, tranquility and elegance. Located north of Auckland, a 40-meter high redwood tree holds the pod-shaped structure with a magical long walkway that connects to it with a view of a stream and the forest. The Pacific Environmental Architects reduced the restaurant’s carbon footprint by opting out of using concrete or steel, instead they used renewable choices such as glum beams, redwood, sustainably-harvested pine and poplar. Local harvesting and milling was incorporated into the process and the structure was built in a manner that would allow as much natural light as possible to reduce the use of electricity. It is currently only open as a unique private venue to be rented for events and private get togethers for an unconventional dining experience.
